EU(ro)vision Day at Malmö University

A full day of seminars, lectures and cultural activities on the occasion of Europe Day (9 May) to celebrate peace and unity in Europe, in connection with the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

*** Svensk text här ***

Europe Day is held on 9 May every year to celebrate peace and unity in Europe. It commemorates the signing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May 1950. This was an ambitious plan to secure long-term peace in post-war Europe that is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union (EU). The Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) started at the same period as a television programme to bring the nations of post-war Europe together, at least for one evening every year, through entertainment. The EU and the ESC share common values in terms of bringing people and countries together and celebrating their cultural diversity, always respecting freedom, democracy, equality and human rights.

Follow and take part in the discussions among scholars, students, diplomats and other guests sharing their vision of Europe and highlighting the EU values linked to the history of the ESC, such as human rights, media freedom and cultural diversity. Learn more about opportunities via EU programmes, such as Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, EU careers and the upcoming European Elections. Take part in our interactive activities related to Eurovision from an EU perspective and celebrate with us!

The event is taking place at Niagara and admission is free upon registration. Registration is open not only for students but also for the general public. Lunch will be offered to the first 300 registered participants. The conference will be held in English.
